On April 23 Matt Drudge, owner and operator of the right-wing content aggregater The Drudge Report, tweeted that he “privately told friends” that 2013 would be the “year of Alex Jones.” Drudge has linked to the radio host and conspiracy-monger several times following the Boston Marathon bombings. On his personal twitter feed, Drudge predicted that 2013 would be the “year of Alex Jones,” praising his show as “one hell of a broadcast in such homogenized media!” In the wake of the Boston Marathon bombings, Drudge linked to articles on Jones’ website Infowars, including stories that  called  Boston a “police state” during the manhunt for the alleged perpetrators, and a  post  accusing the Obama administration of covering up the involvement of a Saudi student who was later declared a victim of the attack: Jones made news following the April 15 bombings at the Boston Marathon after he suggested that the blasts were staged by the U.S

National Rifle Association board member Ted Nugent will reportedly appear  tonight on CNN’s  Erin Burnett   OutFront   to discuss firearm policy, despite his history of inflammatory rhetoric and misinformation about gun violence. In February,  OutFront   featured an interview  with Nugent where he suggested the government could confiscate firearms, a conspiracy theory that host Erin Burnett and CNN reporter Deb Feyerick later treated as a serious argument. Nugent’s appearance comes just days after he  doubled down  on his infamous comments that he would be “dead or in jail” because of President Obama’s gun policies.

During a roundtable discussion on Friday, Fox News’ Lou Dobbs agreed with a network contributor who argued that Americans need to access military-style assault weapons to protect themselves from an Iranian invasion. “What scares the hell out of me we have a president, as we were discussing during break, that wants to take away our guns, but yet he wants to attack Iran and Syria. So if they come and attack us here, we don’t have the right to bear arms under this Obama administration,” Angela McGlowan, a former lobbyist for News Corp.

There is no evidence that torture was an effective source of gathering intelligence against al-Qaeda, according to John Brennan, President Obama’s nominee for Director of the Central Intelligence Agency. Brennan, who was the Deputy Executive Director of the CIA when the torture program began , was asked repeatedly by Senator Carl Levin (D-MI) as to whether he was aware of any evidence that statements by Bush era-officials Jose Rodriguez , Michael Hayden , and Michael Mukasey that information gleaned from torture led to Osama bin Laden were correct. A Justice Department memo obtained by NBC News says that it would be lawful for the U.S. to kill an American citizen if “an informed, high-level official” of the government decided that the target was a top figure in Al Qaeda “or affiliated force” that posed “an imminent threat of violent attack against the United States” and if his capture was not feasible.
