Fox News and other conservatives are busy attacking  Attorney General Eric Holder for assuring the public that law enforcement will not tolerate any acts of violence or discrimination in the wake of the Boston Marathon terror attack. But their latest feigned outrage ignores that hate crimes against Muslims are a very real concern.  Fox News anchor Megyn Kelly covered the story on the April 30 edition of America Live ,  hosti ng Fox contributor Michelle Malkin, who mocked the “phantom threats of hate crime epidemics that have never happened.” (This was the second straight day Kelly had devoted a segment to expressing outrage about Holder’s common sense comments.)  Other conservatives  lashed out  at Holder for his vow to defend religious minorities in America.

A group of gun activists armed with AR-15s and handguns held a rally at the Tippecanoe County Courthouse in Indiana on Saturday to thank Congress for voting down gun safety measures, including a proposal to expand background checks for guns sales. Indiana Moms Against Gun Control organized the event as a counter protest to Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense’s protest calling for stricter federal gun laws in the aftermath of the school shooting in Newtown, Connecticut. Matt Drudge has long been conspiracy theorist Alex Jones’ biggest ally. According to a  Media Matters  review, the heavily-trafficked Drudge Report has promoted at least 50 separate articles at Jones’ Infowars website in 2013, and has linked to at least 244 different articles on the site in the past two years.  Drudge  announced  this week that he had privately told friends that 2013 would be the “year of Alex Jones.” Considering Drudge’s penchant for promoting Jones and his Infowars website, those comments are more of a promise than a prediction. Glenn Kessler of The Washington Post’s Fact Checker blog further discredited “absurd” claims by congressional Republicans, pushed by Fox News, that former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton personally approved a reduction in security at a U.S. diplomatic facility in Benghazi, Libya, that was attacked on September 11, 2012. Fox News has spent days promoting a GOP attack on Clinton based on a partisan House report released April 23 that claims Secretary Clinton had seen and denied requests for more security at the Benghazi facility.

The right wing media’s promotion of a widely-debunked Alex Jones conspiracy theory about the Department of Homeland Security’s (DHS) ammunition acquisitions prompted House Republicans to hold a hearing to investigate. The theory, which assigns some sinister motivation behind the recent ammo purchases, first gained traction on the websites of conspiracy theorist Alex Jones before finding its way to Fox News and Fox Business and finally to the halls of Congress.  On April 25, Republican Reps. Jim Jordan (OH) and Jason Chaffetz (UT)  held a joint hearing  ”to examine the procurement of ammunition by the Department of Homeland Security and Social Security Administration Office of Inspector General.” The hearing followed right wing  media reports  speculating about the reasons for the acquisitions.
