Emails from Obama administration aides obtained by CNN should end the right-wing media’s nine-month witch hunt regarding the creation and editing of talking points related to the September 2012 attacks on diplomatic facilities in Benghazi, Libya. CNN has obtained more than 100 pages of emails detailing the exchanges between CIA, State Department, and other Obama administration aides concerning what should be included in talking points for public appearances by members of Congress and administration officials. Those talking points were used by U.N.

For months, the Obama administration has been subject to media criticism for its initial statements linking the September attacks in Benghazi, Libya, to an anti-Islam video that had triggered protests across the Middle East at that time.

The New York Times ,  The Washington Post , and  The Wall Street Journal  provided incomplete reporting of GOP criticism that President Obama downplayed the role of terrorism in the attacks on a U.S. diplomatic compound in Benghazi, Libya. None of these newspapers provided their readers with Obama’s actual comments labeling the attacks an “act of terror,” thereby giving undue weight to Republican attacks.

Since Kermit Gosnell’s conviction of the murder of three infants, right-wing media have dismissed existing laws and the context of Gosnell’s case as part of their ongoing campaign to connect his horrific crimes to legal abortion procedures. Gosnell Was Convicted Of Three Counts Of First-Degree Murder CNN: Gosnell Was Found Guilty Of Three Counts Of First-Degree Murder. CNN reported: A Philadelphia abortion provider who killed babies by cutting their spinal cords with scissors was found guilty of first-degree murder on Monday.

Evening news coverage throughout April touched upon several economic issues, including income inequality, deficit reduction, and entitlement cuts. A Media Matters analysis of this coverage reveals that many of these segments lacked proper context or necessary input from economists, while some networks ignored certain issues entirely.

The Wall Street Journal debunked the false equivalency of its editorial page that insists the current GOP blockade on President Obama’s judicial nominees is unremarkable “turnabout” and merely follows “filibuster precedent” set by Democrats. In a May 13 article , the WSJ ‘s Washington Bureau Chief Gerald F. Seib detailed the unprecedented Republican obstructionism of the president’s agenda, which not only attempts to nullify his policy initiatives by hamstringing executive agencies, but more seriously by filibustering his picks for the federal courts.

Late Friday, after the Heritage Foundation reportedly  considered seeking the counsel  of an outside PR firm to deal with damage to their brand, researcher Jason Richwine, who coauthored the  deeply  fl awed  immigration report pushed by the right-wing think tank,  resigned  his position. His error seemingly had nothing to do with the poor quality of that document, exemplified by the  bipartisan ,  panideological , critiques of the study, as his coauthor Robert Rector is seemingly still employed at Heritage

Breitbart.com is promoting the theory that Hitler was secretly gay, playing into one of the most extreme and damaging anti-gay smears in right-wing politics: that gay men were responsible for the Holocaust. In a May 9 post, Breitbart.com touted ” new evidence ” that Hitler was gay, citing a  Washington Examiner   article  that highlighted notes taken from interviews with several of Hitler’s doctors. The “evidence” of Hitler’s alleged homosexuality includes the claims that Hitler took female hormones and did not sleep in the same bedroom as his girlfriend and eventual wife, Eva Braun: There is new evidence that Adolph Hitler was  gay .

Robert Gates is calling out conservatives for the “cartoonish impression of the military” they promote when baselessly criticizing the Obama administration for not sending additional support during the September attack on diplomatic facilities in Benghazi, Libya. Right-wing media have often criticized the administration for what Wall Street Journal columnist Peggy Noonan termed their decision to “do nothing” in the face of the attack, with some suggesting that by failing to send additional troops or fighter jets to respond, President Obama had deliberately “sacrificed Americans” as a “political calculation.” But Gates, who served as Secretary of Defense during the Bush and Obama administrations, debunked these claims and explained that he would have made the same decisions, during his May 12 interview on CBS’ Face the Nation . Gates explained that he “would never have approved sending an aircraft” due to fears it would get shot down, and that he would not have approved sending Special Forces due to a lack of information about what was happening on the ground: GATES: I think the one place where I might be able to say something useful has to do with some of the talk of the military response.

ABC News is falsely suggesting there is a contradiction between the Obama administration removing references to terrorist groups in Libya from talking points about the September 11 attacks on diplomatic facilities in that country and pointing to President Obama’s statements that those attacks were an “act of terror.” The original September 14 version of a set of talking points compiled by the CIA’s Office of Terrorism Analysis stated that “Islamic extremists with ties to al Qa’ida participated in the attack,” and specifically suggested the involvement of the group Ansar al Sharia. Those specifics were subsequently removed, with the final version of the talking points stating only that “extremists participated” in the attacks.

Peggy Noonan goes full wingnut in her Wall Street Journal column this morning, asking if the White House’s response to the Benghazi attack “cost American lives.” The argument she lays out is that President Obama and his team, faced with the death of an ambassador and three other Americans, deliberately scuttled any sort of military response to keep the story from looking bad. All of this is bad enough

One of the big bits of news to come out of the May 8 House Oversight Committee hearing was the claim that “whistleblower” Gregory Hicks felt he had been “effectively demoted” within the State Department for speaking out about the September 2012 attacks on the diplomatic facility in Benghazi. A New York Times article directly refutes the claims of House Republicans, including Speaker John Boehner, that State Department officials knew immediately that the attacks on a U.S. consulate in Benghazi, Libya in 2012 were connected to “Islamic terrorists.” Fox News willingly repeated the attack on its evening programming May 9 — but now that the Republican distortion has been exposed, will the network clarify its reports for viewers? Boehner called for the release of a State Department e-mail sent in the wake of the Benghazi attacks that he claimed suggested the assault was perpetrated by “Islamic terrorists.” At the House hearing on Benghazi on May 8, Rep.

As wildfires swept through southern California over the past week, experts warned that the state is in for an especially dangerous wildfire season due to unusually hot and dry conditions. But in their coverage of the fires, several of California’s major newspapers have entirely ignored how climate change has increased wildfire risks in the region. California’s wildfire season kicked off early this year, with record temperatures, heavy winds and ongoing drought conditions fueling fires across the state that have threatened thousands of homes and businesses

A gaffe according to the oft-repeated definition is getting caught saying something you actually believe. Last week Harvard Professor and Daily Beast contributor Niall Ferguson offered an ” unqualified apology ” after remarking that the economic theories of John Maynard Keynes should be ignored because of his purported sexuality. In the  Harvard Crimson  he seems to withdraw at least the “unqualified” nature of his remorse  claiming  ”not for one moment did I mean to suggest that Keynesian economic as a body of thought was simply a function of Keynes’ sexuality.” According to the economist, “nor can it be true–as some of my critics apparently believe–that his sexuality is totally irrelevant to our historical understanding of the man.” Ferguson goes on to state “Keynes’ sexual orientation did have historical significance.

Fox Business’ Lou Dobbs hosted Cody Wilson – a self-described anarchist who was named one of Wired’s top 15 Most Dangerous People In The World  – to promote his 3D-printed gun, which has come under intense scrutiny. On March 5, Forbes reported that Wilson, a law student at the University of Texas, became the first person to fire a real bullet from a plastic gun made with a 3D-printer. The gun, named the “Liberator,” is made almost entirely of plastic, with the exception of a single nail used as the firing pin and a six-ounce piece of steel to comply with the Undetectable Firearms Act , which makes it illegal to manufacture or possess any firearm that is not detectable by a walk-through metal detector.
