A recent Fox News poll of registered voters, which purports to illustrate that a majority of voters agree with the network’s dark narrative on the Obama administration’s response to the 2012 Benghazi attacks, relies on questions from a foundation of tired distortions and lies. National Rifle Association board member Ted Nugent will reportedly appear  tonight on CNN’s  Erin Burnett   OutFront   to discuss firearm policy, despite his history of inflammatory rhetoric and misinformation about gun violence. In February,  OutFront   featured an interview  with Nugent where he suggested the government could confiscate firearms, a conspiracy theory that host Erin Burnett and CNN reporter Deb Feyerick later treated as a serious argument. Nugent’s appearance comes just days after he  doubled down  on his infamous comments that he would be “dead or in jail” because of President Obama’s gun policies.

During a roundtable discussion on Friday, Fox News’ Lou Dobbs agreed with a network contributor who argued that Americans need to access military-style assault weapons to protect themselves from an Iranian invasion. “What scares the hell out of me we have a president, as we were discussing during break, that wants to take away our guns, but yet he wants to attack Iran and Syria. So if they come and attack us here, we don’t have the right to bear arms under this Obama administration,” Angela McGlowan, a former lobbyist for News Corp.

There is no evidence that torture was an effective source of gathering intelligence against al-Qaeda, according to John Brennan, President Obama’s nominee for Director of the Central Intelligence Agency. Brennan, who was the Deputy Executive Director of the CIA when the torture program began , was asked repeatedly by Senator Carl Levin (D-MI) as to whether he was aware of any evidence that statements by Bush era-officials Jose Rodriguez , Michael Hayden , and Michael Mukasey that information gleaned from torture led to Osama bin Laden were correct. The United States government is killing people. Afghanistan, Pakistan, Yemen, and Somalia are all being pounded by missiles launched from US drones, and though the missiles are ostensibly targeted against terrorists, it seems possible that hundreds of civilians have been killed in the crossfire. Neither party’s nominee will debate this issue.

Fox News misrepresented Mitt Romney’s statement that supporters of President Obama are the 47 percent of Americans who “pay no income tax” and “believe that they are victims.” Fox claimed that Romney was actually talking “about our country becoming an entitlement society and too dependent on government,” and presented polling showing that most Americans agree with him. But Romney’s 47 percent remark was not simply an argument that Americans are becoming “too dependent on the government,” as Fox anchor Gregg Jarrett and the poll claimed.
