On Thursday, the Denver Post reported how Evan Ebel, the accused killer of Colorado prisons chief Tom Clements, used a straw purchaser to acquire the 9mm semiautomatic handgun used in the shooting. Ebel, a white supremacist gang member, was a felon and thereby was barred under federal law from possessing a gun.  Had he tried to go into a gun store a buy a gun, he would have failed the background check.  So instead Ebel used the most common method criminals use to acquire firearms: a straw purchaser.  In this case it is alleged that Stevie Marie Vigil, a 22-year-old woman, went in to High Plains Arms to buy a gun on Ebel’s behalf. The pattern is remarkably similar to the Christmas Eve ambush-murder of two firefighters in Webster, NY.  In that case, a 62-year-old felon named William H.

Fox News’ Bill O’Reilly declared victory in the so-called “War on Christmas,” joining Fox’s fight to defend Easter from supposed attacks by “secular progressives.” Previously, O’Reilly claimed there was no “War on Easter,” crediting himself for preventing such a war. President Obama announced on Friday that he had spoken to House Speaker John Boehner (R-OH) and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) since the failure of the GOP’s so-called Plan B and “offered to compromise with Republicans in Congress” in the ongoing negotiations to avert the so-called fiscal cliff. Obama said he is “ready and willing” to get “a comprehensive package done” of revenue increases in spending cuts “all at once” or in “several different steps” and reiterated that the final product will “need support from Democrats and Republicans.” “Nobody gets 100 percent of what they want everyone has to give in a sensible way,” Obama said at least twice. He stressed that taxes will go up on all Americans unless Congress reaches a deal before Jan.
