Fox’s Bill O’Reilly used his national platform to launch a crusade against openly gay Colorado lawmaker Rep. Mark Ferrandino (D-2) over his opposition to a law that would institute mandatory minimum sentences for sexual predators who target children, repeatedly suggesting that Ferrandino’s opposition to the measure might be linked to his support for gay marriage.

Fox News mischaracterized a new proposal to set emissions limits for existing power plants, suggesting that Environmental Protection Agency regulation would make electricity rates increase and likely draw the opposition of “carbon state Democrats.” In fact, the plan is expected to actually lead to lower power bills through improved energy efficiency, and allows states with carbon-intensive power to make cost-effective and realistic steps toward sustainable power.  Laying out a plan for President Obama to address climate change in his second term, the Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC) released a proposal to regulate carbon emissions from existing power plants under the Clean Air Act using a flexible approach that can be tailored for each state and would minimize economic impacts. by Ronnie Citron-Fink The year I graduated high school and drove a beat-up orange Datsun over the George Washington Bridge to discover a brave new world — college — was the same year the image above was shot. Across the country, images like this one became the environmental story that was sure to define our future.

In the House of Representatives’ final act before its two-month vacation, House Republicans approved 233-175 a pro-coal package on Friday that dismantles or delays an array of public health protections. H.R. 4309 may be named for the fictitious “war on coal,” but it rolls back protections in the Clean Water and Clean Air Acts, blocking EPA carbon pollution standards and fuel efficiency standards

The initial evidence is in, and it seems to support the notion that President Obama’s immigration announcement last Friday is a clear political winner for him. A new Bloomberg poll , which Alex Seitz-Wald summarized earlier, finds that 64 percent of voters approve of Obama’s decision to make up to 800,000 children of illegal immigrants eligible for work permits that will allow them to stay in the United States, while just 30 percent disapprove of it. Opposition is mainly concentrated within the GOP.  Eighty-six percent of Democrats and 66 percent of independents support the move, but 56 percent of Republicans don’t.

What the Romney-Obama race really boils down to is a battle between blame and context. The Romney campaign, as I’ve been writing, is banking on the tendency of economically anxious swing voters to turn on the guy in charge and latch on to the opposition candidate as a vehicle for their frustrations
