In today’s Washington Post , columnist Robert Samuelson misrepresented President Obama’s approach to fixing our nation’s deficit, which includes spending cuts in addition to tax increases on the wealthiest Americans. Samuelson claimed that Obama has misled the country “by implying that making millionaires and billionaires pay their fair share will solve much of” the deficit problem

The Journal has long failed to disclose that Rove is deeply involved with American Crossroads and Crossroads GPS, two political groups that are spending hundreds of millions of dollars to help Republicans in this election year. For what appears to be the first time, the bio line at the end of Rove’s column states that Rove is “a co-founder of the political action committee American Crossroads.” The column is expected to run in the paper’s September 27 edition. The Journal had previously stated only that Rove is “the former senior adviser and deputy chief of staff to President George W.

Todd Akin (R-MO) has come under fire for perpetrating the dangerous myth that “legitimate rape” doesn’t often lead to pregnancy because “the female body has ways to try to shut that whole thing down.” Although Mitt Romney has publicly condemned Akin’s comments, some conservatives haven’t been willing to clearly articulate their opposition to Akin’s misinformation about the biology of rape

House Speaker John Boehner might be spending a little too much time drowning his sorrows over the utter dysfunction he’ll have to face again when August recess is over. Earlier today, President Obama took aim at Paul Ryan and his House leadership team for failing to pass a farm bill to help farmers and ranchers in this record heat and drought.

Paul Ryan’s (R-WI) life and career following his selection as Mitt Romney’s running mate, they may overlook details such as his inside-the-Beltway focus, the high level of unemployment in his hometown, and his family connection to the natural gas industry. In the early stages of such reviews, news outlets are often dependent on the campaigns themselves, prior national coverage of the candidate, and even Wikipedia for insight and can miss the kind of information local reporters who have covered the vice presidential selection for years may know best

Contrary to Pfeiffer’s claim that it had never left the White House, that bust was indeed returned and a different bust of Churchill that predated both Obama and George W

Chris Christie vetoed a bill today that would have established a state-wide health insurance exchange that could have extended health insurance to the roughly 1.3 million New Jersey residents that are either uninsured or underinsured. Christie, who has been short-listed as a possible VP choice for the “ all-but-certain ” Republican Party nominee Mitt Romney, maintains that his decision to block passage of the bill rested solely on the uncertainty of the Affordable Care Act, notwithstanding the preliminary steps Christie has already taken to form an exchange in the effect of “successfully applying for $8.7 million in planning and research grants from the Obama administration.” In the event that the U.S. Supreme Court should rule in favor of the ACA, New Jersey will not be in the most favorable position to set up its health-care exchange, and the federal government will be forced to step in to create and operate the new insurance marketplace. — Fatima Najiy
