Fox News host Jon Scott disputed President Clinton’s claim that no one could have turned the 2008 economy around in four years with a dishonest use of statistics and a faulty comparison to the Reagan economy. On Happening Now , Scott showed part of Clinton’s speech at the Democratic National Convention in which Clinton said that no president “could have fully repaired all the damage that [President Obama] found in just four years.” Scott then claimed that when President Reagan took office, unemployment was 8.2 percent, and by the time his first term ended, it had dropped to 6 percent

Mitt Romney’s speech to the Republican National Convention on Thursday night was riddled with misleading claims and critical omissions . In no section was this more true than Romney’s discussion of foreign policy . The GOP presidential nominee devoted only 202 words to national security and while his speech completely ignored the war in Afghanistan and any homage to American servicemembers, it contained a shocking number of misstatements and false and baseless attacks on President Obama: 1

Arctic sea ice extent takes a nosedive this year. What does it mean for us? (Source:  Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency ) By Neven Acropolis with Kevin McKinney In the past week the Arctic sea ice cover reached an  all-time low , several weeks before previous records, several weeks before the end of the melting season. The long-term decline of Arctic sea ice has been incredibly fast, and at this point a sudden reversal of events doesn’t seem likely.

By now you’ve likely heard — and perhaps felt your jaw drop over — Todd Akin’s interview , in which the Republican Senate candidate from Missouri admitted that he believes abortion should be illegal even in cases of rape, because “if it’s a legitimate rape, the female body has ways to try to shut that whole thing down.” If you follow that logic to its end, Akin means: Ladies, if you say you got pregnant after being raped, you’re probably lying about being raped. Of course, the scientific facts are far from being on Akin’s side, which should be embarrassing for a member of the House Committee on Science, Space, and Technology. While it may be true that  female   ducks  have evolved in such a way that they now have a biological anti-pregnancy response to forced sex, human beings most definitely have not

Photo: Newscom The chief executive of a company that hosted a campaign event for Mitt Romney today in Virginia agrees with President Obama that tax revenues should be used to help pay for extensive infrastructure improvement projects. He said that increasing gas tax revenues is the smartest way to pay for an infrastructure package that would fix the nation’s crumbling roads and bridges while also putting Americans back to work. James Parker, the CEO of Carter Machinery, told the Washington Post’s Greg Sargent that he disagrees with Obama’s plan to pay for infrastructure spending by taxing the wealthy, but that he agrees new revenues are necessary to pay for a comprehensive transportation package: “ I believe that there’s got to be an economic plan to take care of our roads and our bridges ,” Parker said.
