Right-wing media have seized on a study of Medicaid recipients to attack the program by focusing on certain parts of the findings while health care experts point out that the program successfully expanded access to care and eased health-related financial problems, the primary focus of Medicaid. In 2008, the state of Oregon held a lottery to expand Medicaid coverage to 10,000 people. Because the selection was random, researchers began a controlled study on how the coverage affected the participants.

“Slut.” “Prostitute.”  These words  defined  Rush Limbaugh in 2012 after he smeared Sandra Fluke, a Georgetown law student who testified before Congress about women’s health care. Limbaugh’s misogynistic attack, which spanned three days of his radio show, did incalculable, long-term  damage  not only to Limbaugh’s brand, but also  to the right-wing talk-radio format  he helped to build and the conservative movement he has shaped for decades.

A recent World Bank report warned that we are on the path to a world “marked by extreme heat-waves, declining global food stocks, loss of ecosystems and biodiversity, and life-threatening sea level rise.” Yet The Los Angeles Times , CNN and Fox News ignored the report entirely, continuing a pattern of deficient climate coverage. In November 2012, a World Bank report concluded that a 4 degree Celsius ( 7.2 degrees Fahrenheit) worldwide temperature increase by the year 2100, of which there is approximately a 20 percent likelihood even assuming current commitments to greenhouse gas reduction are honored, would lead to “unprecedented heat waves, severe drought, and major floods in many regions” and the “regional extinction of entire coral reef species” that provide “food, income, tourism, and shoreline protection” for many communities. It also determined that the consequences of climate change would most adversely affect “many of the world’s poorest regions,” which have contributed among the least to climate change and have the least ability to adapt

Daily Beast  correspondent Megan McArdle attacked the concept of an assault weapons ban by falsely suggesting that there are no functional differences between such weapons and other firearms. In her November 21  article , McArdle wrote that the differences between assault weapons and other firearms are “largely cosmetic rather than functional,” a claim also pushed by the National Rifle Association. In fact, assault weapons, like the military weapons on which they are based, have functional differences from other guns that increase their lethality

Mitt Romney is facing huge backlash from the leaked video that captured him saying 47 percent of people in the United States believe they are “victims” and that they will never vote for him. Republicans, particularly those in tight elections this year, and conservative pundits are criticizing Romney for the comments, disassociating themselves from his message.
