Since the 2012 election, Republicans have consistently blamed President Obama for ignoring the recommendations of the Simpson-Bowles deficit commission he created shortly after taking office in 2009. Republican leaders have said they’d be “ willing to say yes to ” a Simpson-Bowles-style plan, which balanced revenue with spending cuts and changes to entitlements.

Wall Street Journal columnist and editorial board member Kimberley Strassel misrepresented the win-loss record of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) in court in order to suggest the Obama administration’s environmental rulemaking is frequently illegal. In an April 9 column, Strassel attempted to smear President Obama’s nominee for EPA Administrator, the highly qualified and widely regarded Gina McCarthy, with the accusation that she was responsible for an alleged “embarrassing string of [legal] defeats” suffered by the Obama administration while serving as the senior EPA official in charge of regulating air pollution. Fox News host Bill O’Reilly argued against another accurate statement about President Obama, calling the claim that spending growth has decreased under Obama’s administration “crazy.” After screaming ” bullshit ” at  Fox News contributor Alan Colmes for accurately pointing out that Obama has proposed specific spending cuts, O’Reilly again dismissed Colmes when he pointed out that President Obama has slowed the growth of federal spending more than any president sinceto Eisenhower.
