Politico executive editor Jim VandeHei misrepresented a poll to claim that progressive Democrats are out of step with most people who voted for President Obama over how to deal with Social Security and Medicare. VandeHei stated on the November 20 edition of MSNBC’s Morning Joe that Obama voters are “at odds with the liberal base” of the Democratic Party on Social Security and Medicare: VANDEHEI: [T]here’s a lot of divisions inside the Democratic Party over what to do on entitlement reform. Two national law enforcement organizations representing black and Latino police officers announced their support yesterday for the ballot initiative to legalize marijuana in Colorado. The endorsements by Blacks in Law Enforcement of America and the National Latino Officers Association of Amendment 64, which proposes to regulate marijuana like alcohol, were accompanied by a letter signed by law enforcement officials from around Colorado : As police officers, judges, prosecutors, corrections officials and others who have labored to enforce the laws that seek to prohibit marijuana use, and who have witnessed the abysmal failure of this current criminalization approach, we stand together in calling for new laws that will effectively regulate marijuana in a manner similar to alcohol. The comments appear to be a new post-convention Republican strategy to paint Obama as anti-God: ROMNEY: I believe it’s important to have a president and I will be a president, if elected, that honors that pledge and all the pledges that I made.

Chicago teachers could hardly be more united in their disgust at Mayor Rahm Emanuel’s assault on public education. More than 98 percent voted to authorize a strike, which union activists say is as much about defending students and parents as it is about the economics of their contract. And while school has already started in the Windy City, the nation’s third largest school system could be shut down by next week, setting off a confrontation between a militant rank-and-file teacher movement and the mainstream of the labor movement and its allies, the Democratic Party
