This is the SodaStream commercial CBS banned from airing during the Superbowl: Sodastream is a home carbonation system that touts itself as “Earth Friendly”: SodaStream is an “Active Green” solution that minimizes the huge eco-footprint caused by the manufacture, transport and waste of plastic bottles. SodaStream says its “vision is to create a  world free from bottles .” They claim that ”since January 2009, we have saved the world from over  1 billion plastic bottles .” Now it is is hard to see why CBS banned that ad gently ribbing the competition (albeit two Superbowl sponsors) — especially since last year NBC ran this ad by Chevy that (humorously) suggests you won’t survive the Mayan apocalypse if you drive a Ford truck [insert line here about trucks and the real apocalypse that's coming]. You shouldn’t shed a tear for SodaStream, however, since they will reportedly be airing a different commercial — and this ban has been a marketer’s dream , with the above ad being viewed more than 2.5 million times this week already.

Conservative New York Times  columnist David Brooks argued today that the Obama administration’s clean energy investments have been “a wasteful disappointment,” citing a figure that his own paper called ” outrageous ” to downplay the number of jobs created in the clean energy sector. Brooks wrote : Obama’s stimulus package set aside $90 billion for renewable energy loans and grants, but the number of actual jobs created has been small.

Unemployment dropped to 7.8 percent, a number that seemed to bewilder a skeptical MSNBC host Joe Scarborough this morning, who responded to the monthly jobs report by saying, ”These numbers don’t add up, it doesn’t make sense.” Watch: Scarborough maintained his skepticism of the number’s veracity throughout the October 5 edition of MSNBC’s  Morning Joe , despite receiving explanations from analysts like Josh Green, from  Bloomberg   Businessweek , who noted earlier in the show: One reason this number went down, is we didn’t just add 114,000 new jobs, there were the upward revisions in August and in July.

Despite the prevalence of green energy in Pennsylvania, a Media Matters study found that both the Philadelphia Inquirer and Pittsburgh Post-Gazette generally ignore clean energy in their reporting and neither paper has ever mentioned the overwhelming public support for green energy. According to the Media Matters study , the Philadelphia Inquirer and the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette collectively wrote 62 articles on energy and the environment from July 1, 2012 through August 15, 2012. In that time period, neither paper reported on public support of green technology, and both papers failed to discuss green energy in all but 9 articles.

Conservative media figures who have been longtime supporters of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan are accusing the Obama administration of pursuing a policy of disengagement in the Middle East, pointing to the end of the war in Iraq and the troop drawdown in Afghanistan. But unmentioned in their criticism is when they think it would have been an appropriate time to withdraw from both countries, if at all.
