The Washington Times attempted to recycle misinformation about Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid’s warning that GOP obstructionism of President Obama’s nominees is unsustainable, but published an inaccurate argument that doesn’t support its own rhetoric.

Late Friday, after the Heritage Foundation reportedly  considered seeking the counsel  of an outside PR firm to deal with damage to their brand, researcher Jason Richwine, who coauthored the  deeply  fl awed  immigration report pushed by the right-wing think tank,  resigned  his position. His error seemingly had nothing to do with the poor quality of that document, exemplified by the  bipartisan ,  panideological , critiques of the study, as his coauthor Robert Rector is seemingly still employed at Heritage

Right-wing media are encouraging Republican senators to filibuster gun violence prevention legislation, continuing a long history of trying to influence GOP politics through recommended obstructionism. Gun Violence Prevention Legislation Added To Legislative Calendar Washington Post : Senate Gun Violence Prevention Legislation Includes “Universal Background Check System; Stricter Federal Criminal Laws For Gun Trafficking; And Provisions To Improve School Safety.” A March 21 Washington Post article reported that Sen. Harry Reid (D-NV) placed gun safety prevention legislation on the legislative calendar.

Zev Chafets wants you to know that some of Roger Ailes’s best friends are black. He makes that point repeatedly throughout his latest tome, Roger Ailes: Off Camera, the product of a year of unprecedented access to Roger Ailes, his employees at Fox News, and his friends and family. The result is largely an amalgamation of anecdotes that lets its subject off the hook for the most controversial aspects of his 40-year career, either by whitewashing them from the record entirely or by deflecting the reader with misdirection.

For weeks, Democratic senators have been crafting a filibuster reform package that, if it resembles the reforms embraced by Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV), will include reforms that prevent the minority from imposing hours of needless delay every time a new nominee is confirmed, and which will also include the so-called “talking filibuster” that requires supporters of a filibuster to speak on the floor in order to maintain it. Opponents of reform have now offered a counterproposal — and, according to Sen. Lamar Alexander (R-TN), it essentially amounts to doing nothing : Alexander, emerging from a bipartisan meeting of reform opponents held this morning in Kyl’s office, said that the proposal would limit the use of the filibuster in some cases, such as on a motion to proceed to debate, and also include provisions allowing for amendments for the minority .

The Associated Press and CNN recently debunked an op-ed featured at The Daily Caller that suggested a recent ammunition purchase by the Social Security Administration evidenced an Obama plot to kill American citizens en masse. The bizarre theory is hardly the first conspiratorial idea to be promoted on the opinion page of The Daily Caller. The AP And CNN Eviscerate Op-Ed Suggesting Obama’s Mass Murder Plot Regular Contributor Jerry Curry: Each Round Of Ammo Procured By SSA “Represents A Dead American.”  From an August 17 op-ed published by The Daily Caller discussing the procurement of 174,000 rounds of ammunition by the Society Security Administration for its law enforcement arm: What would be the target of these 174,000 rounds of hollow point bullets

Editor’s note: Portions of this article are reproduced or adapted from Better Off Without ’Em: A Northern Manifesto for Southern Secession . For large chunks of the last two years I traveled through Dixie doing research for a book called Better Off Without ’Em: A Northern Manifesto for Southern Secession (published this month by Simon & Schuster). Wherever I went in the South I was called a socialist
