As Vice President Joe Biden prepares to offer legislative recommendations to reduce and prevent gun violence on Tuesday, gun advocates across the country fear that the administration may succeed in expanding background checks for all gun purchases or limiting the sale of high capacity magazines and assault weapons. State-based gun advocacy organizations are vowing to oppose any additional gun safety measures, NBC News reports , and have formed the National Coalition to Stop the Gun Ban to act as a counterweight to the National Rifle Association (NRA), which, the Coalition claims, is too eager to compromise with gun control advocates

During a roundtable discussion on George Stephanoupolos’ This Week Sunday morning, GOP political consultant Mary Matalin got into a heated exchange with Nobel Prize-winning economist Paul Krugman, calling him a “liar” for previously referring to Paul Ryan’s Medicare reform plan as a “voucher” program: MATALIN: You have mischaracterized and you have lied about every position and every particular of the Ryan plan on Medicare, from the efficiency of Medicare administration, to calling it a voucher plan, so you’re hardly credible on calling somebody else a liar. Watch it: But this is exactly what the Ryan proposal is — turning Medicare from a “defined benefit” into a “defined contribution” plan .

The Romney campaign is sending out a flyer in Northern Virginia pledging to fight Lyme Disease, which is describes as a “massive epidemic threatening Virginia”: The Washington Post notes that “According to the CDC there are less than 1,000 reported cases of Lyme disease in Virginia a year — in a state of eight million people .” It’s fairly difficult to contract Lyme disease because “an infected tick must be attached to the skin for at least 36 hours to transmit Lyme bacteria .” For those who are affected, there is a straight-forward and effective treatments for the disease — a course of antibiotics for 2 to 4 weeks. So what’s the point of this Romney mailer? A highly influential social conservative in Virginia, Michael Farris, believes that people can contract “ chronic Lyme disease ” that must be treated with long-term antibiotics

Ohio Secretary of State Jon Husted has hired outside counsel to help him sort through the many lawsuits over his early voting restrictions, which has thus far cost the state $85,000 in legal fees . Husted is currently juggling his pending appeal to limit voting on the last weekend before Election Day to military families only, a wrongful termination suit from two election officials who were fired for supporting early voting, and a suit brought by his predecessor, Jennifer Brunner, to restore weekend voting.
