Fox News Sunday selected Victoria Toensing and Joseph diGenova, attorneys who represented witnesses at a Republican-led hearing on the attacks at a U.S. diplomatic facility in Benghazi, Libya, for its “power players of the week,” an unfortunate choice given that both individuals misled Fox News and its viewers about allegations of threats and intimidation against their clients and about efforts by the administration to prevent their clients from testifying. Though Fox News Sunday aired certain aspects of Toensing and diGenova’s biographies, the segment neglected to mention that the two have a history of poor professional conduct, including criticism from a Democratic congressman for inappropriate behavior and actions while they worked as congressional investigators due to their constant media appearances attacking President Clinton

The Washington Post ‘s Bob Woodward, based on a series of dubious factual errors, is now offering a flawed comparison between the Watergate scandal and the Obama administration’s response to the September terror attack in Benghazi, Libya. There’s no small irony to Woodward injecting himself into what has become a scandal driven by deceptively edited emails passed off to reporters, given the recent attention he received after using a similar method to support his ridiculous accusation that a White House aide threatened him. In his latest attempt to jump into the debate on the side of the right wing, Woodward demonstrates a striking lack of familiarity with the basic facts of what happened.  Here’s what Woodward said during his May 17 appearance on MSNBC’s Morning Joe , and what’s wrong with those statements.

By all accounts, the Heritage Foundation study that would have been the conservative media’s cudgel to defeat comprehensive immigration reform a second time is all but rotting in the ground, buried under accusations of anti-immigrant and race-based bias.

Fox News ignored President Obama’s explicit demand for accountability in the wake of news that the Internal Revenue Service applied extra scrutiny to conservative groups. The network’s omission gave it cover to accuse Obama of not taking the IRS’s actions seriously and to call for a special prosecutor. Obama first addressed the IRS controversy during a May 13 joint  press conference  with British Prime Minister David Cameron, where he condemned the IRS’s behavior with the caveat, “If, in fact, IRS personnel engaged in the kind of practices that had been reported,” then “that’s outrageous and there’s no place for it.

Economic media coverage has been heavily focused on advocating for deficit reduction, even as deficits decline and the federal government posts a surplus.

The Wall Street Journal debunked the false equivalency of its editorial page that insists the current GOP blockade on President Obama’s judicial nominees is unremarkable “turnabout” and merely follows “filibuster precedent” set by Democrats. In a May 13 article , the WSJ ‘s Washington Bureau Chief Gerald F. Seib detailed the unprecedented Republican obstructionism of the president’s agenda, which not only attempts to nullify his policy initiatives by hamstringing executive agencies, but more seriously by filibustering his picks for the federal courts.

One of the big bits of news to come out of the May 8 House Oversight Committee hearing was the claim that “whistleblower” Gregory Hicks felt he had been “effectively demoted” within the State Department for speaking out about the September 2012 attacks on the diplomatic facility in Benghazi. Hicks’ attorney,  Victoria Toensing , is making the right-wing media rounds, telling radio host Steve Malzberg that Hicks was forced out of his post in Libya after the State Department told him he could either take a desk job or lose his job altogether

A New York Times article directly refutes the claims of House Republicans, including Speaker John Boehner, that State Department officials knew immediately that the attacks on a U.S. consulate in Benghazi, Libya in 2012 were connected to “Islamic terrorists.” Fox News willingly repeated the attack on its evening programming May 9 — but now that the Republican distortion has been exposed, will the network clarify its reports for viewers? Boehner called for the release of a State Department e-mail sent in the wake of the Benghazi attacks that he claimed suggested the assault was perpetrated by “Islamic terrorists.” At the House hearing on Benghazi on May 8, Rep.

During a key moment in her congressional testimony on the September 2012 attacks on a diplomatic compound in Benghazi, Libya, then-Secretary of State Hillary Clinton effectively exposed the witch hunt that conservative media helped Republican lawmakers lead: [T]he fact is, we had four dead Americans.
