On February 7, Breitbart.com’s Ben Shapiro reported that Defense Secretary nominee Chuck Hagel (according to “Senate sources”) received money from a group called “Friends of Hamas.” The report spread quickly through the conservative media as damning of Hagel, until Dave Weigel at Slate.com pointed out a salient fact — there’s no evidence that “Friends of Hamas” exists. Now, New York Daily News reporter Dan Friedman is claiming that a joke he shared with a GOP source is the provenance of “Friends of Hamas.” In response to their story falling apart, Shapiro and Breitbart.com — who angrily and self-righteously demand accountability from the rest of the media for every slip-up, real or imagined — are lashing out and refusing to accept responsibility for publishing a report based on a falsehood.

Right-wing media are attacking New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg, an advocate of stronger gun laws, for traveling with armed security. These attacks are illogical given that Bloomberg supports the right of citizens to own guns.

Now, a new radio ad by the same tax-exempt group suggests female voters are unable to make up their minds and vote for the candidate who is most handsome.

In the days since Mitt Romney chose Paul Ryan as his running mate, Fox News has been gushing over the Wisconsin congressman, calling him a “rock star,” a “bold, transformational” pick, and “the future” of the Republican party. Sarah Palin labeled Massachusetts senate candidate Elizabeth Warren a “Marxist” during an appearance on Fox News on Wednesday afternoon, building on a conservative argument that Warren’s viral speech arguing that government contributes to the success of the individual, is anti-American. “I will tell you, though, it is cracking me up watching what the Democrats, this idiotic strategy of theirs, to have Elizabeth Warren, who has almost confessed to her Marxist views these views that replicate failed European countries about redistribution of wealth, all these failed policies and she is the face of that message in the convention!” Palin declared.
