As of this writing, there is no indication that the IRS’s inappropriate targeting of conservative political groups has any connection whatsoever to the White House. And some conservative talking heads are even acknowledging as much. But they’re not letting that stop them from naming Barack Obama as the culpable party, arguing that the president is responsible due to his preternatural ability to bend the average bureaucrat to his maleficent will from afar.

Louisville’s Kevin Ware after breaking his leg Sunday By now, the entire nation is familiar with the gruesome broken leg University of Louisville basketball player Kevin Ware suffered in the first half of the Cardinals’ win over Duke in the NCAA Tournament’s Midwest regional final. Ware is lucky: his surgery went well and, according to Louisville’s team doctor, he’ll be able to return to the court in the future (incidentally, the injury is almost identical to the one suffered by Louisville running back Michael Bush, who returned to play in the NFL, in 2006)

Jeanne Manford and her son Morty The founder of Parents, Families and Friends of Lesbians and Gays (PFLAG), Jeanne Manford, has passed away at age 92. In 1972, Manford accompanied her son Morty to a Gay Activists Alliance demonstration, where he ended up being attacked, leading her to declare in the New York Post, “I have a homosexual son and I love him.” PFLAG National Executive Director Jody Huckaby paid tribute to Manford today: Jeanne was one of the fiercest fighters in the battle for acceptance and equality for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) people. It is truly humbling to imagine in 1972 – just 40 years ago – a simple schoolteacher started this movement of family and ally support, without benefit of any of the technology that today makes a grassroots movement so easy to organize.
