Fox News contributors pushed flawed claims that Attorney General Eric Holder committed perjury while testifying before Congress because Holder’s comments on Justice Department examinations of reporter communications records as part of leak investigations supposedly conflict with Holder signing off on a warrant seeking the communications of a Fox reporter in one such case. House Republicans are now following Fox’s lead by reportedly investigating Holder’s statements, which has one Fox reporter saying Holder is “gonna have to go.” Fox Figures Suggest Holder Approving Warrant For Fox Reporter James Rosen’s Communications May Prove Holder Committed Perjury Karl Rove: Holder May Have Lied To Congress. Fox News contributor Karl Rove reacted to Holder’s May 15 testimony to the House Judiciary Committee by stating: “I don’t think the president was, you know, shooting straight with us, and neither was the attorney general.” Rove contrasted Holder’s testimony with the news that Holder had signed off on the warrant for Rosen’s emails, commenting, “I find that highly unusual and potentially involving a lie to Congress.” [Fox News, On the Record with Greta Van Susteren , 5/23/13 via Nexis] Hosts Of The Five : Holder “On The Hook,” Will Go To Prison “I Hope.” After airing a clip of Holder’s testimony, Eric Bolling said, “So how do you explain your signature on the subpoena of FOX’s phone records?

On May 23, Obama announced that he is lifting his ban on the transfer of detainees from the Guantánamo Bay detention center to Yemen

And some conservative talking heads are even acknowledging as much. But they’re not letting that stop them from naming Barack Obama as the culpable party, arguing that the president is responsible due to his preternatural ability to bend the average bureaucrat to his maleficent will from afar.

The network’s omission gave it cover to accuse Obama of not taking the IRS’s actions seriously and to call for a special prosecutor. Obama first addressed the IRS controversy during a May 13 joint press conference with British Prime Minister David Cameron, where he condemned the IRS’s behavior with the caveat, “If, in fact, IRS personnel engaged in the kind of practices that had been reported,” then “that’s outrageous and there’s no place for it.

Right-wing media have often criticized the administration for what Wall Street Journal columnist Peggy Noonan termed their decision to “do nothing” in the face of the attack, with some suggesting that by failing to send additional troops or fighter jets to respond, President Obama had deliberately “sacrificed Americans” as a “political calculation.” But Gates, who served as Secretary of Defense during the Bush and Obama administrations, debunked these claims and explained that he would have made the same decisions, during his May 12 interview on CBS’ Face the Nation . Gates explained that he “would never have approved sending an aircraft” due to fears it would get shot down, and that he would not have approved sending Special Forces due to a lack of information about what was happening on the ground: GATES: I think the one place where I might be able to say something useful has to do with some of the talk of the military response.
