Fox News’ Bill O’Reilly provided a platform for Tommy Robinson, head of the English Defence League, a violent, extremist anti-Muslim hate group in Great Britain. O’Reilly hosted Robinson on  The O’Reilly Factor  to discuss the EDL’s efforts to, as Robinson described, “fight for Christianity, fight for our children’s future, fight for our culture, and fight for our country’s identity, which is completely under attack.” Robinson went on to claim that British politicians aren’t doing enough to suppress the growth of Muslim communities in the United Kingdom, adding “actions speak a lot louder than words.” Although O’Reilly mentioned press reports describing the EDL as “fascist” and “racist” and described the group’s views as “militant” at the beginning of the segment, he failed to note the EDL’s history of incendiary and often violent actions. A 2010 “undercover investigation” by  The Guardian   found  that the organization planned protests against Muslim communities in “a blatant attempt to provoke mayhem and disorder”:

Fox News spent nearly four hours on June 4 covering that day’s House committee hearing on the IRS’ inappropriate focus on conservative groups, largely ignoring the simultaneous Senate committee hearing into the epidemic of sexual assaults in the military. Right-wing media are falsely claiming that excerpts of interviews with IRS employees prove that improper targeting of conservative groups applying for tax-exempt status originated from IRS supervisors in Washington, D.C. But House Oversight Committee Chairman Darrell Issa admitted on CNN that no such proof is contained in the excerpts

The New York Times ,  The Washington Post , and  The Wall Street Journal  provided incomplete reporting of GOP criticism that President Obama downplayed the role of terrorism in the attacks on a U.S. diplomatic compound in Benghazi, Libya. None of these newspapers provided their readers with Obama’s actual comments labeling the attacks an “act of terror,” thereby giving undue weight to Republican attacks.

Since Kermit Gosnell’s conviction of the murder of three infants, right-wing media have dismissed existing laws and the context of Gosnell’s case as part of their ongoing campaign to connect his horrific crimes to legal abortion procedures. ABC News is falsely suggesting there is a contradiction between the Obama administration removing references to terrorist groups in Libya from talking points about the September 11 attacks on diplomatic facilities in that country and pointing to President Obama’s statements that those attacks were an “act of terror.” The original September 14 version of a set of talking points compiled by the CIA’s Office of Terrorism Analysis stated that “Islamic extremists with ties to al Qa’ida participated in the attack,” and specifically suggested the involvement of the group Ansar al Sharia. Those specifics were subsequently removed, with the final version of the talking points stating only that “extremists participated” in the attacks.

Peggy Noonan is lucky, in a way, for the existence of Karl Rove and Dick Morris. The duo absorbed most of the mockery and heat for their irrationally optimistic predictions that Mitt Romney would trounce President Obama last November, allowing pundits like Noonan, who were no less sanguine about the impending Romney ascendance, to ease into 2013 relatively unscathed. The day before the election, you’ll recall, Noonan explained on her Wall Street Journal blog why Romney would win.
